Roof Over
Effective October 1, 2007 changes in the Florida Building Code no longer allow for roof overs on residential houses. A roof over is the process of applying new roofing material directly on top of old roofing material. The codes now require that the existing roofing layer be removed.
This process is however, allowed on commercial structures. If you wish to do a roof over on your commercial structure please consider the following points:
- Roof Must be Inspected Before Roof-Over
- Any Rotted Wood Found Must be Repaired
- Eaves Drip, Flashings and Vents Not Necessarily Replaced--Could Lead to Pre-Mature Failures
- New Shingles Will Not Lay Nice and Flat--Can be Minimized by Use of 30 Year Architectural Shingles
- Two Layers of Shingles May be Negative Point When Selling Your Home
Recommendations
- This Process is Not Recommended by Crosier & Son Roofing, Inc
- Is Available as an Option However
